still alive!

hey friends! sorry it's been so long since my last post, it's been a really busy week. and it's summer so it just feels better to be outside in the sun instead of cooped up inside writing blog posts. for the sake of catching up, here's what i've been up to for the last bit:

1. whistler with the kobes fam jam!
we went biking, and walking, and swimming. it rained. a lot. but it was great to spend time as a family.

2. we played baseball

we've been playing tuesday night softball for a few weeks, which, i have to admit, has been super awesome. we had a wrap-up tournament on saturday. softball from 8am-7pm was a bit too much for me though so i just played the morning.

silas was our cutest fan.

3. went to a wedding. we didn't take any pictures but we had a fun day celebrating with my cousin and her now-husband!

what have you guys been up to? got any big plans for the weekend? tomorrow my besties are comin over for dinner (i'm so excited!!!!) and then me and david are going to hit up jam in jubilee. should be a hoot ;)

the great sandal hunt of 2014.

i'm the kind of person who owns as few pairs of shoes as possible. i own one pair of boots, one pair of ballet flats, one pair of walking shoes, one pair of runners, and until recently, one pair of sandals. on one of the first warm days we had this year the toe strap on my beloved sandals broke. after a few days of mourning i set out to target (obviously) to get a replacement. and for the first time ever at target i couldn't find anything i liked and that came in my size (tens can be hard to come by sometimes).

so now it's been a few weeks and i still haven't been able to find a pair with the right combination of comfort, style, and affordability (i'm also the kind of person who spends, on average, $20 for a pair of shoes). i also need sandals to have a back strap because i drive a standard car and my shoes need to stay put.

my last resort is to scour the internet for something. here's what i've found so far...

saltwater sandals
decent on the affordability scale and i hear they are super comfortable and last a long time. i also like that they are real leather. buuuuut, ankle straps never seem to work for me and i will i get sick of doing up that buckle all summer?

toms

these are way over my price limit but i really love them!

these from american eagle
i love this style but again with the ankle strap...

or these
the ankle strap on these is a little bit looser, i may even by able to slip them on and bypass the buckle!

which are your favourite? i'm torn between the first ones and the last ones because i think they'll be the best everyday kind of shoes. i'm going to hit up american eagle this week and try a few out. and if they don't work it'll have to be the saltwaters!!

*** UPDATE: i went to american eagle after work and they didn't have any of the ones i liked! soooo i stopped by the boathouse just to check things out and i picked up these bad boys for $20. i'm gonna test them around the house to make sure they're comfortable but i think we've found a winner.

summer bucket list.

school is officially over and summer has begun! me and david are both taking summer classes but they are condensed so they’ll be over by the end of june. even so, it feeeels like summer is here. it helps that it’s 25 degrees today and super sunny.

me and david have big plans for the summer. it’s our first complete summer being married and we’re going to milk every second of it.

here’s what we want to get done by the end of august:
  • walk to the movie theatre and watch a movie
  • repaint the desk
  • go to jam in jubilee
  • have friends over for a bbq
  • go to seattle for a night
  • go to cultus lake and swim (i have to specify ‘swim’ otherwise david won’t)
  • make nightstands
  • go to whistler 2x
  • read a book that’s not a textbook
  • work lots/make $$$
  • go to the gym/work out 2x a week
  • keep our plants alive
  • do the abby grind
  • go (real) camping
  • get good grades in summer classes
  • go to burnaby mountain and watch the sunset
  • go to the driving range
  • richmond night market

anything else we should add?

i think it's going to be a good summer.

ps. we're on the look out for cheap patio furniture. preferably a smaller table with some chairs. let me know if you see any deals!

feels like summer.

today in the fraser valley it was sunny and 18 degrees. SUMMER IS HERE! well, for now at least.

me and david have been enjoying the beautiful weather by going for walks. yesterday we hit up albert dyck park and we went to mill lake tonight. it felt so nice to have to take my sweater off because i was warm. it is definitely time to pack away the boots and thick sweaters.

david also has his eye on the barbecue. can't wait for burgers on our awesome patio.
